Spencer is the Executive Director of Homefront Community Development, Inc. which he initially started as FBCNKC’s in-house response to the growing benevolence needs in Kansas City’s Northland in 2007. It was incorporated as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization in June of 2015. Spencer has been a member of FBC since childhood and loves books, music and films.

His work with several non-profits over the years have led him to over 35 countries. His background comprises a variety of work with urban populations including: students, immigrants and low-income communities in urban Boston; with war refugees in Mali; leading the outreach and church starting efforts of the IMB in Bulgaria; directing the international activities of the American Academy of Family Physicians; and directing faculty recruiting and development for Global Scholars. 

Spencer graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has completed post-graduate degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and the University of Kansas. He also has completed 3 years of doctoral work in the area of non-profit leadership.

Spencer’s wife, Leslie, is a hospital chaplain for Saint Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit and also serves as a deacon at FBCNKC. Together they have two children – Emmanuelle and Ian. Emma is a junior in the International Baccalaureate programme at NKC High School. Ian is a 6th grader at Eastgate. They live in NKC just a few blocks from the church.
